Data from the multicentre ARTIC study, documented in FDA submissions, confirm the potential of artificial intelligence to support specialists and improve the efficiency of diagnostic workflows.
Artificial intelligence continues to transform gastrointestinal diagnostics, providing healthcare professionals with increasingly advanced tools to optimise clinical activities.
In this context, the results achieved with NaviCam® ProScan™, the technology developed by AnX Robotica to support physicians in analysing images acquired through capsule endoscopy, are particularly significant.
According to data from the prospective multicentre ARTIC study, reported in documentation submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the use of ProScan™ reduced the average reading time for small-bowel examinations from 33 minutes and 42 seconds to just 3 minutes and 50 seconds.
An 88.6% reduction, highlighting the potential of artificial intelligence to optimise workflows in gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Greater efficiency and support for diagnostic accuracy
Alongside the significant reduction in reading times, the study also documented an increase in diagnostic yield, from 62.4% to 73.7% with ProScan™ assistance.
These two findings highlight the importance of integrating advanced image-analysis algorithms into clinical practice, while ensuring that physicians remain central to the interpretation of results and diagnostic decision-making.
ProScan™ is designed as a support tool, not as a replacement for specialist expertise.
Artificial intelligence helps make the image-review process more efficient, creating new opportunities for organising diagnostic activities.
Technology supporting healthcare professionals
The evolution of capsule endoscopy is not limited to device miniaturisation and image quality. It also involves the ability to manage and interpret increasingly large volumes of clinical information.
The integration of NaviCam® and ProScan™ reflects this approach: supporting healthcare professionals through technological solutions designed to make diagnostic processes more efficient.
The results of the ARTIC study represent an important scientific contribution to the evaluation of artificial intelligence applications in capsule endoscopy.
